Abstract
The presentation will analyse how demographic trends such as population aging and international migration have influenced the size and composition of the German electorate in the past and projects their future impact. It also illustrates how changes in electoral law could influence these demographic developments. The presentation will start from central arguments and projection results from my dissertation “Germany’s future electors” (2014). These results will be placed in the context of more recent developments, notably the refugee crisis and the “Fridays for future” movement. I will argue that many of the issues and challenges discussed in my dissertation have become even more pressing in recent years.
