The way the labour market functions is a crucial factor in any analysis of the Swedish model, but has all too often been described in theoretical terms. This paper examines the happenings behind the rise, application and fall of the centralized bargaining model through combining economic history with organization theory opon board meeting minutes and documents of the Swedish Metal Trades Employer’s Association (VF)—one of the main actors in these events.
